Passport Index has declared the Maltese passport as the ninth most powerful in the world in its 2016 ranking of passports worldwide. Passport Index curates, sorts and ranks the world’s passports by analysing which passports offer their holders visa-free travel and in which cases a visa is required on arrival in certain countries.

The Maltese passport offers visa-free travel to 150 countries in the world, including the United States of America. This ranks it as one of the most attractive passports for worldwide mobility.

Malta is currently offering a Maltese Citizenship by Investment scheme, known as the Individual Investor Programme (IIP), which facilitates the acquisition of Maltese citizenship for third country nationals, subject to certain conditions.

Once approved, applicants are provided with a Maltese passport and are able to freely reside in Malta and in any European Union Member State while also enjoying all the rights and freedoms provided by the European Union Treaties.
