Dr Ian Gauci, Partner and Head of the Communications, Media and Technology Department at GTG Advocates, will be speaking at the ILS Block Chain and Smart Contracts event on Tuesday 7th November in Valletta.
The event will be providing an introductory legal perspective to the concept of Blockchain and Smart Contracts and is intended to lay out the basics surrounding these technologies. Blockchain and smart contracts are expected to have a widespread effect, not least as they have brought about the emergence of cryptocurrencies. This is anticipated to have a great impact on various industries, including the legal profession. Despite the disruption this new wave of technologies is bound to cause to long-standing practices, they are also expected to provide additional security, cost-effectiveness and efficiencies.
Dr Gauci, who is now serving as a member of the newly formed task force advising on the implementation of Malta’s national blockchain strategy, will introduce smart contracts, how they work and their uses. Along with Mr Loui Mercieca, Technical Blockchain Advisor, Dr Gauci will be discussing the practical issues surrounding the concept, its opportunities and limitations at this moment in time.
All those interested in focusing on the legal perspectives relating to these innovations are encouraged to attend.
