GTG Advocates’ Partner Dr Ian Gauci last week spoke as a panelist at the Malta Innovation Summit, discussing the concept of Malta as a Blockchain Island. As a specialist in Communications, Media and Technology, Dr Gauci discussed the reality of disruptive technologies and considered this from the point of view of blockchain and the digital shared economy.

Regulators face numerous challenges in approaching the Blockchain. The terminology around the whole phenomenon of Blockchain technology is still heavily in flux and it can be difficult to form a clear picture of it and of the phenomenon that surrounds it; this can also lead to interpretative problems. As the Government has committed itself to establishing a Blockchain Hub and a Blockchain Lab, the need for legal clarity becomes all the more essential.

Other topics of discussion on the panel included the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence (AI), FinTech, as well as Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies.

The summit was hailed as a resounding success and gathered a variety of executives, educators, professionals, leaders, innovators, and CEOs sharing real-world experiences, ideas, trends, processes and best practices under one roof.
