Dr Gatt’s main areas of practice include maritime and yachting, data protection, gaming, civil, and compliance. As a member of the firm’s maritime department, Dr Gatt assists ship financiers, ship owners, and ship managers across a wide spectrum of practice areas, including ship registration, purchase and sale of ships, ship finance, shipping administration and compliance. As a key member of the yachting department, Dr Gatt regularly advises clients on all matters relating to the acquisition and operation of yachts and guides clients to determine ideal ownership solutions for their needs, taking into consideration VAT and tax implications. Dr Gatt is also heavily involved in the field of gaming and data protection, and acts as the Data Protection Officer for a number of Maltese licensed gaming companies.
Dr Gatt joined GTG as a Junior Associate in 2020. He was admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2021 after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) and Master of Advocacy degrees from the University of Malta after successfully defending his dissertation titled “Do the existing laws cover smart contracts or do we need a new set of laws to deal with them?”
Throughout his student years, Dr Gatt served on the executive board of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) for two consecutive years (2016-2018). He filled the roles of Vice President for Marketing and Secretary General. In 2018, he was the Head of the Organising Committee for the Summer Elsa Law School on Maritime Law, an international event organised in Malta which hosted circa fifty participants from 18 different countries.
He is fluent in English and Maltese and is conversant in Italian.
